Racks, network closets, cable runs, door hardware, wall boards and the diagrams behind them. Home lab or paid job, finished or half-done — if someone doing the same work next week would learn something from your photo, it belongs here.

Anonymous by design

Most of the best work on a site like this was done for somebody else, and that is usually why it never gets posted at all. So the rule here is short: post the hardware, not the customer.

No company names, no exteriors, no addresses or signage, and nothing that ties door hardware, locks or keypads to a recognisable place. You do not have to say who you are or who you work for — the equipment is the subject and it stands on its own. If the network in your photo is not yours, read the terms before you post; that page is the full version of this paragraph.

Posting your own home lab? None of that applies. Post away.

Tag your hardware

Tag what is in the frame, not what the job used — unifi_access, wall_mount_cabinet, nas. That is what makes this searchable: someone asking “what does that actually look like installed” should get an answer rather than a near-miss. Ask a moderator if you need a tag that does not exist yet.

Posting here

Lead with the photo, but give it enough context that someone could learn from it.
The useful shot is usually the one taken during the install — back boxes, conduit entry, clearances, something in frame for scale. Tidy-and-finished is nice; mid-install is useful.
Hardware and software stack, what it cost if you are comfortable sharing, and what you would do differently.
Before/after and lessons-learned posts are especially welcome.

House rules

Be useful and be kind. Critique the cabling, not the person.
No vendor catalogues. Transparent vendor participation is fine; pitching is not.
Do not post anything that identifies where you live, or where a customer’s site is. We strip EXIF, but we cannot strip a street sign.
